Drownings are 100% preventable!
May is national drowning prevention month, so all of you pool owners, parents of small children or caregivers listen up! Accidental drowning is the 2nd leading cause of death of children under 5 years old.
Here is a list of tips that everyone should know!!
-Never leave a child unattended near a pool, tub or bucket.
-Put a fence around your pool that is at least 60" tall with a self closing gate.
-Put alarms on all doors that go out to the backyard.
-Never go inside to answer the phone or door, if it is important they will call or come back.

-Remove all toys from the pool and around the pool when you are not using the pool.
-Remove all objects such as chairs, tables or ladders that can be used to help climb over the fence. If you find your child trying to do that scream, yell and tell them that they ARE NEVER ALLOWED TO CLIMB OVER THE FENCE, it sounds harsh but you have to scare them or they will try it again.
-If a child is missing check the pool first.

-And my favorite tip, NEVER USE WATER WINGS!!! They are not safe, they give adults and children a false sense of security.
Children drown without a sound! Most of time when a child falls into a pool there is not a loud splash, they will not scream and call for help because they are stuck under water. Please, Please, Please never take your eyes off you kids when around the pool and never let them stay at a home without a fence around the pool.
These are just a few tips, you can go online and google drowning prevention and learn more about protecting your family.
Have a fun and safe summer!!
