Yes, they taste as good as they sound! There are a few people who have requested the "how to" guide in creating these little gems!
Step 1: Bake a cake!
I use Duncan Hines because, I think it tastes better then Betty Crocker.
A standard pyrex pan will get the job done!
Step 2: Break up cake in to small chunks, place in food processor and process until it looks like bread crumbs.
This was FUN!
Bread crumblike
Step 3: Add a small amount of frosting (i used vanilla since it was a white cake), mix it in well with hands, roll into small balls, place on cookie sheet and refrigerate for a few hours.
Step 4: Gather decorating supplies! I purchased the chocolate/candy melts at Michael's and my Mom had all of the sprinkles from various stores. Melt the chocolate/candy per the directions on the bag, we used a handy dandy chocolate warmer to keep the chocolate melted while using it.
So pretty!
Step 5: Dip stick into melted chocolate and slowly push into cake ball, dip the cake ball in chocolate, make sure you cover entire ball (no cake showing) and decorate. Tip: Only pull out a couple balls out of the frig at a time so they do not get to soft.
Serious face needed when covering cake balls!
Decorate!
Step 6: Place in styrofoam (cover foam, so you can reuse, it is kind of pricey) and put in frig to harden.
Enjoy!
Tips:
Cake Mix: I use Duncan Hines, but changed the recipe to make it more healthy....
-Cake Mix
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cup water
Bake per instructions on box.
Frosting: We used a homemade frosting recipe, but you can used canned frosting. Be sure to only use a little bit, no more than 1/3 cup frosting.
Balls: Keep refrigerated for as long as possible to avoid them getting to soft and breaking apart. Covering them in chocolate takes a long time, sit down and relax cause you are going to be there awhile!
Storage: You can freeze these guys up to a month, if you do not freeze, refrigerate and eat within one week (not going to be a problem at my house).
