The Dam Race - 2013

This past weekend was the annual Dam Race in Parker, Arizona and again (read about last years trip here) it was tons of fun and what made it even better was that the Sheriff was able to come with us.  We left the OC a little bit later than I wanted to on Friday, but we arrived safely, got the Sheriff's boat registered, ate dinner at Strokes, checked into our hotel room and called it a night.  We stayed at the Best Western instead of the Blue Water because we had Milo the Sheriff's pup with us along with Mr. Pie and the Best Western was the only place we could find that allowed pets.  It was an interesting night with Milo loose in the room, he slept next to me on the floor but every time I rolled over or moved  Milo would get up and lick my face, ugh, gross, dog slobber.   We all had an early wake up call because we had to be at the marina at 6:30am for our pontoon ride to the start line, but with a child and a dog it takes a little bit longer to get out the door so we were up bright and early Saturday morning.   We arrived to the marina in plenty of time and headed off to the start line, the ride over was freezing, but as soon as the sun came up it was nice and warm.

I tried to get a picture of some of the peeps on one of the pontoon boats but clearly the Sheriff was they only one paying attention!

Now, I have got their attention!

It was cold, but it was so pretty out, the sun was just coming up and it made for a very nice ride up the river.

We took a lot of selfies this weekend!

I was cold, Mr. Pie was hot, so I borrowed his jacket, I thought this might help scare off the competition.

The Sheriff having a beer at 8:30am, really?

My boat crew!  Lil, Sheila, Marcia, Ricki, Meegan and Me.  Our boat came in 4th place, not bad for a crappy start.

Just chilling at the awards ceremony eating Mr. Pie's Halloween Candy!

After the awards we all hopped onto the pontoon boats for an afternoon ride, it was so much fun, everyone was singing and laughing the whole time, it is so great that we all get along so well and that we travel great together.  We were starving at this point so we hit up this pirate themed restaurant and bar along the river to eat and to "hydrate".

More selfies of the two of us!

Mr. Pie was such a trooper through out the day, seriously this kid is amazing, he was up at 5:30am, spent the morning on a boat, hung out with us while we were at the awards and lunch, swam for a least an hour at the "most amazing pool ever" his words because there was a water slide.  Spent more time in the sun and by the time the above picture was taken he was spent.  Poor kid was hungry and tired when the above picture was taken, but as soon as we practically forced food down his throat he bounced back and was able to climb the pirate ship outside the restaurant with Andre.

After we had dinner aka everything unhealthy on the menu, we headed up the river to the Road Runner another bar along the river.  Thankfully, it was not to busy so it was not too inappropriate for Mr. Pie, however we hung outside with the ducks most of the time and the gal working the bar was nice enough to give us a couple pieces of bread so Mr. Pie could feed the ducks.

We soon boarded the pontoon and as we headed back we swamped the boat because there was too much weight at the front of the boat and that freaked Mr. Pie out, after that he was done, he snuggled up'ed to me and passed out and it was only 7:30pm, poor kid he was so tired.  The three of us dragged ourselves back to the hotel and were asleep by 9pm only to awoken by Milo barking on and off through the night and if he was not barking he was either licking my face or jumping on our bed, it was a long night but a great day so it was all worth it.

Check back tomorrow for the rest of the weekend's adventures!
